Bravos & Lactose

Last night, my company had a night at the Braves game sponsored by our bank. We pay them a lot of money, (and so they occassionally feel guilty enough to give us something back), so they opened up their suite at Turner Field with dinner & dessert for the Braves vs. Marlins game. Yesterday morning, the coordinator told me she had an extra ticket and asked if I knew anyone that I wanted to bring.
My mother, a very devoted Braves' fan, has NEVER been to a real baseball game. So, I called her and asked her if she wanted to go, and she obliged. I love getting to see my Mama anyway, but getting to see her see "her Braves" live and in person was a very special treat. Plus, we had some great food! And we were in a corporate suite like three suites down from the press boxes, so our seats were fabulous.
Because I rode in the company van, we all left around 10, somewhere in the seventh inning, but ... it was still a blast. The rest of my family is a little jealous that they weren't there, but that's a blog for another day!
Funny thing though... on the way from Dalton to Cleve, I talked to my mom. We were talking about a bunch of things, including what I had watched on Oprah on Monday.
*Let me go on record, I do not love Oprah. If I never watch another episode, I can say with assurance that I'll be okay. She gets on my nerves.* But, since there was nothing else on Monday while I was sick, I watched Oprah and Dr. Oz for a few minutes and learned alot about calcium and poop. Seriously lots.
So, my mom and I were talking and I was telling her about what Dr. Oz said because it made ALOT OF SENSE. I was talking about my frustration about milk. I don't like milk. I'm not a huge fan of cheese. Ice Cream is the last thing I would ever pick for dessert. Several months ago now, a doctor had done some blood work for me and told me that I was slightly lactose intolerant. Because I really don't like milk, this wasn't a big deal. (After what Dr. Oz said though, I want to drink it by the gallons.) But in the middle of our conversation, my mom chimes in,
"Sis, you've been Lactose intolerant your whole life. They didn't call it that when you were born, but you couldn't take regular milk, so we always had to buy you soy milk."
-- You would think she would have enlightened me to this, I don't know, BEFORE I paid said Dr. to tell me.
So, I'm buying Soy Milk tonight in the hopes that I can understand, to some extent, what is so fabulous about milk. But, I still don't think I'm going to go ga-ga for ice cream. Call me un-American if you want, but I don't care.

Soy milk isn't my favorite, but I was lactose intolerant during both my pregnancies and I craved milk. You might also try Lactaid. It's Lactose free milk, but is pretty tasty. I preferred it more over the soy. Just a thought.....

I was completely lactose intolerant with both of my pregnancies and Soy milk just did not get it for me. I craved milk in pregnancy though, so maybe even try Lactaid Milk. It's lactose free, but was more tasty (to me anyway) than the soy.

Welcome to the world of lactose intolerance ;-)

Unlike Holly, I didn't become lactose intolerant until I was prego with Buddy! The doc said it happens sometimes. Anyway, I second the Lactaid milk. I can't tell the difference.

I think I'm lactose intolerant because whenever I drink milk I always break out with acne. Or I immediately have to go to the bathroom. :)
